Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack Announced at Video Game Awards
Update: The map pack is confirmed to be available for 800 Microsoft points. So much for hoping that was just a rumor…

Moments ago, on the Spike VGA stage, Gears’ lovable Augustus Cole announced the new Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack downloadable content. And, just as was rumored, it’ll be releasing in a few hours, at 3AM eastern on Monday, December 15th.
The Combustible Map Pack will include three new multiplayer maps. “Flood” is the imulsion map that was leaked weeks back and will feature imulsion as an environmental hazard. “Gold Rush” will also be included, a map that was released as part of Gears PC. The third map, “Fuel Station” looks to have been inspired by Gears favorite Fuel Depot, but is not a straight remake. More details still to come (including pretty screenshots) and, per a reliable source, we’ve been informed the Combustible DLC will set you back a hefty 800 Microsoft points.
800 Microsoft Points?? That means that we would be paying $10 (at $12.50 per 1000) for three maps. I am personally hoping that this was a mistake. I love Gears of War 2 and will likely get the new map pack, even at 800 Points, but the pricing is beginning to get ridiculous.
With the continued matchmaking problems you would think that instead of working to squeeze every nickel and dime out of their customers that they can, the focus would be on fixing existing problems. I love the game, but I am quite disappointed by this news, and hope that I am jumping the gun here by writing about what, at this point, remains a rumor.
For the die-hard Gears of War 2 fan, this will no doubt be a great deal regardless of the price. I am definitely looking forward to the new maps.
