Hey Nixy,

Nice machines, bit overkill with the two GTX295's and the i7 920 only at stock tho. :P
Also I'm loving the Copperhead and Tarantula myself.

Personally I like to play with my hardware more (overclocking and soft- and hardware tweaking).

My rigs:

Gaming/work rig
CPU: Intel Core2 Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz (water cooled)
RAM: 8GB PC-8500
GFX: HD5870
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-x48-DS4
Storage: 5x 500GB (Still want a SSD)
Monitors: 2x 24" Samsung SyncMaster (want to get a 3rd to try Eyefinity)

LAN Box
CPU: Intel Core2 Q6600 @ 3Ghz
RAM: 4GB PC-8500
GFX: HD4870 512MB
Storage: WD Raptor 74GB

Server
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 6000+
RAM: 4GB PC-6400
GFX: 8800 GT
MoBo: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
Storage: 1x 250GB (Boot) + 3x 1TB (Storage)

Yes I do use all that HDD space as well. :/

Well I tried to make a video response but it was an epic fail because it was to dark and robot chicken covered the sound for it. Anyways heres the specs...
MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
CPU: Intel E8500 Core2Duo 3.16 Ghz
GPU: XFX Nvidia GTS250
RAM: 4Gb DDR2 Corsair Dominator Memory
STORAGE: 500Gb HD(Internal), 320Gb HD(External)

All of this inside a custom case made from an old army ammo case, you can see my custom made case here...
http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20106

I also have an external Samsung DVD Drive, a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard, Cheap Logitech Mouse, as well as a cheap Saitek Joystick, and a kick ass Fatal1ty MkII Pro Gaming Headset...

Oh and a 26" Samsung LCD Monitor...

Nothing great, probably the best thing is the case itself, it usually grabs peoples attention.

Whoa, that´s a helluva nerdcave you got there. me likes :)

I got a Dell Precision 490 as main pc workstation/ game rig:
-Dual (means two) Xeon E5345 (quadcores @ 2.33Ghz)
- 12gb ecc ram
-Ati Hd 3870 x2 / 1gb
- Scsi 10k 73gb for OS
- 2x 160gb sata @ raid 0 for games
- 500gb sata for stuff
Dual booting Vista 64 for gameing and Gentoo Linux for nerding :)
-24# Samsung screen 1920x1200
-40# Samsung screen 1920x1080i for Movies and also gameing from the couch with xbox360 gamepad
- oh, and I sport a Speedlink keyboard (wired) and a logitech bluetooth mx5000 desktop with a laser mouse (wireless)

An Asus Laptop for mobility
- Core duo @ 1,73Ghz
- 2gb ram
- Geforce Go 7300 with 128-512mb ram
hypermemory (or whatever its called, to fullfill memory needs taken from main memory)
Tripleboot: Gentoo Linux, Windows XP and Leopard, but only to tinker with (Hackintosh)

and also some other pcs (a netbook, an atom board as NAS etc.) for projects

I saw you are already into ssd´s for your system. I´m looking forward to that for my system too. I searched for the specs of your graphic cards and was like O_o. Serious power you got there, like 3,5gb ram. That machine must be energy hungry aswell.

I like your style btw, I saw a vid from you about the correct use of the find command in linux on youtube once and thougt it was quite sexy. Got me a serious Scully flashback back then. *rrr*

Holy shit.

I just didn't believe what I saw. Ok well it is not that rare to find some of your hardware at somebody's place but when I saw your work pc I really (!) didn't trust my eyes.

I've got:
Samsung SyncMaster 226bw (seems pretty close)
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (Hello-ooh?)
Some random mouse (but also using it with my left hand!)
Sennheiser PC 166 USB headset

"Gaming"/Work PC (got only one - uh how lame):
Motherboard: ASUS P5B Premium
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3 GHz 2 cores)
RAM: 8 GB RAM (some Kingston sticks)
GFX: Sapphire 4870 HD (1GB)
Controller: Microsoft Wireless XBOX 360 PC Edition
OS: Ubuntu 9.04 64bit / Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Server:
Motherboard: ASUS M3A-H/HDMI
CPU: AMD BE2150(2.1 GHz 2 cores)
RAM: 8 GB RAM (some Kingston sticks as well)
GFX: onboard
OS: Debian stable 64bit

So all in all nothing over the top but it manages with the things I usually play (at least for now) ;)

Cheers, w9

I restrict my gaming to the Play Staion, but this is what makes my computer work...

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD2500AAKS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATAII/300 16MB Cache
RAM: Kingston 2GB
Processor Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper TX2
Operating System: Ubuntu 9.04 (which I updated from 8.04 via 8.10)
Card Reader: Hiyatek Black 20-in-1 Multifunction Card Reader With Fan Controllers 2x USB E-SATA
Speakers: Wharfedale S21196A

Full details of the build are on http://daveyspeedstar.com

Oh - and a little Acer Aspire One - running SuperOS (Ubuntu 9.04) 8GB SSD, and RAM upgraded from 1GB to 1.5GB

*cries* your "crappy" pc is about equal to my main workstation :'(

At least this provided ample motivation for completing that education, I want to swim in cash and get such sweet setups too :)

Anywho. My setup:
1 desk of approx 2.X meters width (can be raised and lowered - a must!) with 3 monitors and thus 3 PC's on it:

"main"
24" DeLL Screen @ 1920x1200
C2D E6600 @ 3gHz
4GB DDR2
Nvidia 8800GTX
approx 500GB total
Das Keyboard II (oh yes - mechanical KB's FTW)
OS:
(not used at all the past 4 months) WinXP
  Ubuntu 9.04 64bit

server:
DeLL PowerEdge Server
C2D E4500 @ 2.2gHz
2GB DDR 2 Ram
4x 1TB Disks
OS: Arch Linux 64bit

secondary PC ("Flotilla" after the Quarian makeshift spacefleet in Mass Effect - it's mainly made from spare parts so that's why)
AMD x2 3800+
3GB DDR2 Ram
500GB Disc
Nvidia 8600GTS
OS:
   Windows 7 (to test)
   Debian 5.0 Lenny (main OS)
Laptops:
DeLL Vostro 1400 (surprisingly good value)
OS: Arch Linux

DeLL Mini 9
OS: Ubuntu Linux

And finally the PC/Laptop I do most of my work on:
Macbook Pro Unibody 17"
Core2Duo 2.66gHz
4GB DDR3
320GB 7200RPM HDD
9600m GT
OS's
OS X Snow Leopard (rarely used)
  Windows Vista (never used)
  Ubuntu 64bit (always used)

I'm really impressed with the 12GB setup, how on earth did you even get to stuff to much ram in there ? What motherboard is that ?

PS: At least glad to see that I'm not the only poster with less horsepower than Nixie - go people with "crappy" pc's ! :)

Being a student I quickly realised the time for big setups were about done (too costly) and offloaded my gaming to the xbox360.
