Ghostbusters – The Game : Who ya gonna call?

That’s right, the Ghostbusters are back. This time our spiritual, slimy, proton-packing friends will coming to us via our favorite delivery method: video game form.

Don’t cross the streams!

Now, you may be thinking..

I didn’t know they were making a game, this can’t be real.

Then you will be surprised to learn that this 3rd-person action game also brings back the voices of every character from the film, and the plot is set two years after the movie Ghostbusters 2.

So it’s like a prequel, but in video game form?

You got it. It’s also written by Ray and nerdy Egon themselves! (Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis) Surrounded by the original Ghostbusters cast, you take control of The Rookie, a newbie who helps with ghost-busting along with being subjected to the cast’s rejected and volatile testing equipment.

The demo I’ve seen is set beginning with Times Square and ending right before the final showdown with Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Developers Terminal Reality and Three Wave software gave the impression that no expense would be spared to stay true to the die-hard Ghostbusters fans. The graphics are incredible; seeing Slimer in HD is leaps and bounds better than from an ol’ skool VHS.

What kind of console do I need for this game?

You’re in luck. Atari brought out the big guns this time as this game is available for 6 different platforms. Whether you game on PC, Xbox360, Wii, DS, PS3, or even a Playstation 2 – you can experience total protonic reversal.

Well, okay.. but can I play online with friends?

That is the most exciting part. Just today I caught wind of some new information that in Multiplayer mode you have the choice to play as one of the four original Ghostbusters. (an option not available in the single player game) From what Atari says, multi-player is a “fast-paced, co-operative experience. Taking place on an average phantom-packed day for the Ghostbusters team, players will work together to contain supernatural phenomena around the city while competing to earn the biggest pay check.”

In my post tomorrow I’ll get more in depth about multiplayer gameplay along with including screen shots. I can’t wait until its release date in June 2009. I can tell this is a welcome change in the direction that games have been going. (especially those based off movies) Ghostbusters – The Game will truly be unlike any game I’ve ever played.

Co-op play simply makes everything taste better. Looks promising.

  2. Anonymous says:

This is great it is just in time for the old birthday same month and all still trying to figure out what system to buy for which to play it on.

  3. Anonymous says:

Been looking forward to this one for sure! Co-op is always a welcome feature. The Wii version looks almost like a different game though. I think the lower graphics capability and the unique control scheme, make for a completely different experience on the Wii. I first read about this game sometime late last year though, so things may have changed.

  4. Ugi says:

Unsure if i will invest in this or not, never really been a big fan of Ghostbusters.

  5. Blair says:

There is no way it will be better than the C64 version I was addicted to 😛

  6. Anonymous says:

I really need to see that movie. This looks like fun :]

  7. Anonymous says:

  8. Gazz says:

  9. Justis says:

If my problem was a Death Star, this aitrcle is a photon torpedo.
