This post reminds me of the indie record scene which the major labels are killing off. Later came the internet and people could sell records themselves but over time iTunes started to be the monopoly in that space. The games which I had the most fun with were where you actually build them yourself. Just like lego became one of the best toys because you had complete control over it. The current recession might actually get kids to write and develop their own games and expand their creativity. Rather than waste a load of money on some expensive title because it is cool on that month. Linux has a long way to go before it can provide the tools for users to do this but I think it is going to happen in the future with software like SDL possibly taking the lead.

Oh the event I want to go to this year is Champions League Final because with real life the graphics/sound are better and it feels more realistic than HDTV !

I'd choose indie. Better prices, bottom line. I can get the same, if not, more enjoyment than most mainstream releases.

Though I would like to think I support Indie games (supreme ruler 2020 has had many hours put into it and I'm looking at Evochron Legends) I do think that the smaller developers do need the large guys.

Without Microsoft adding XBL then there goes a large market for indie games right there. Also without digital distribution for the PC (inevitably run by the big guys) then many indie pc games would never have seen the light of day. Without the big guys, the interest and market for games in the first place just wouldn't be there for many of the indie developers to tap into.

If I could play games for the rest of my life... would be from the major developers. As much as I like the ideas and quirks behind indie games, I would miss the polish, playerbase and quality behind the major studios.
