I have been an adventure game addict ever since I picked up my first copy of King’s Quest. You may be asking yourself, what does a 2011 Rockstar game have to do with adventure gaming? Thankfully, more than I thought. Watch my surprise as I cover gameplay, sound, graphics and overall experience of this 1940′s based detective game.
Extended Version:
NOTE: Watch the shorter version here before the extended!
My Not-So-Wordy Overview of LA Noire
Pros:
- Hired professional on camera actors to play parts with amazing facial recognition
- Look and Feel
- Episodic cases
- Period cars and clothing, hair, music
- Details, Details, details! (ie – You can hear the rustle of your pantlegs as you walk down stairs)
- So many different locations, never gets boring
- Story; it’s like 3 stories blending simultaneously
- Dialog! Amazing script and story writing
- To help adventure game players..
- Aim assist for newbies
- Turning on siren causes cars to pull over for you
- Or you can skip driving all together (holding y)
- “Skip this action sequence, your progress will not be affected”
- Sounds for clues, doesn’t take away from adventure experience
- Puzzles are easy but fun, action puzzles more difficult
- LONG and satisfying game!
Cons:
- Save points over user controlled saves – causes you to replay a lot
- Some controls awkward when looking around, searching for clues can’t really fully explore… so much detail but can’t see, it will be better with pc version
- Can’t accurately tell if people are lying, etc
- glitches, but they’re cute – your partner walks off randomly , had to reload from beginning of episode, missing pieces of dialog/audio, repeating audio
- doesn’t let you drive your cool car into next scenes
- not a lot of re-playability, even with it being a sandbox game
Oh, and did I mention.. there are three discs?!
