I have put together a video tutorial which helps people learn the easy way to do desktop recording (gtk-recordmydesktop), and the more difficult way I do it, using ffmpeg from the terminal.
Nixie is a girl that's been playing video games since she came out of the womb. 22 years later I decided to share these pent-up opinions about the industry, games, my likes and dislikes and everything in between.
I also dabble with Linux and make a vain attempt at helping others dabble as well. Actually, I just like the word 'dabble'.
Wow, awesome! I will finally need to try out the terminal method, because recordmydesktop seems very slow, even on quite powerful systems. Of course there is a chance that the GUI is just a frontend for the terminal stuff, but…
Anyway – nice video Nixie, It’s good to see you videocasting again. Keep the videos coming!
Your videos are good for newbies as well as geeks who only work on linux.
I’m one of the second kind. It would be great if you make more videos on converting music file formats using simple scripts….Great job…

I’ve found this website that shows how to record using gtk-recordmydesktop and how to use mencoder to convert the resulting ogv file to an avi. Sorry if you already know this. I’m trying both methods from your record your desktop tutorial, but can only get faint music to play on the recording.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Nice vid! I’ve just switched from Ubuntu to Mint 9. Have you tried Mint 9 KDE yet? I think it looks pretty good and was wondering if you have a similar tutorial for recording the desktop on Mint 9 KDE.
For a challenge, you should get FreeBSD, Gentoo or Linux from Scratch running nicely Personally, I’m more of an openSUSE fan over Ubuntu, but used Ubuntu for a number of years prior to that
with due respect ,
i m using linux mint 10 kde i have installed gtk-record my desktop but it is not getting launched please help me out , i m new to linux

Hi Nixie,
Thanks for your nice Ubuntu tutorials! They are very usefull.
I really appreciate what youŕe doing out here!
Ubuntu is one of the best (if not the best) Linux distro for desktops as Debian is for servers.
Thank you for the post.

You should do a segment on non-linux open source operating systems (the BSD’s, MINIX, OpenSolaris, FreeDOS, etc)
