A Port in the Stormy Sea of Webcams

When I decided that I wanted to buy a webcam, it took countless hours of research and reviews to find the perfect one for me. There were always issues with price, size, or capabilities and the info I got from reviews wasn’t always legit.

For those who have been similarly dumbfounded by all the info on cams out there, or if you’re trying to do research and are just plain bored by what you have found so far, I made a video that should help with your buying decisions as well as your boredom… (I hope) :P

First, the diagram…then you said “…by a p*ssy…or a cat.” Lol, good save. Pretty funny for a product review. Definitely agree on the resource hog part. I also own this camera, which I mainly got for high quality video on Skype. I also agree that it’s an excellent product. Thanks for the review.

I would defiantly consider this camera next time i get one. But my question is does it function ok on ubuntu?

Hah, I was just looking for webcams too a day ago… needed it to specifically work with skype, and ubuntu wiki entry said this about it:

“Works perfectly, microphone also once upgraded uvcvideo driver to v166 or above”

So I skipped it, since if I’m buying a new webcam, I might as well get one that works perfectly. So went with an HP 2 megapixel one – and it worked perfectly right from plugging it in.

  4. The lighting on your face looks good — a lot of cheapie webcams blow it out. I’ll definitely put this one at the top of my list for consideration. Thanks Nixie!

  5. Aww, you should’ve used Newegg. They’ve got EVERYTHING cheaper. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104255
