CES 2011 (Green) Innovation Award Winner : Sonamu PC!

On the CES 2011 show floor, I interview a member of Moneual labs about the Sonamu PC, winner of a CES 2011 Innovation award. This PC’s power supply is designed to almost completely remove the vampire or phantom power drain created by most PCs and peripherals. On standby, the Sonamu with attached monitor, speakers, and printer, uses less than one Watt!

Could you see using this power supply device on your own PC?

  1. mobiletone says:

i have this modern invention called ‘the switch’ on my wall, when activated my computer/tv/amp use 0.0W per hour when not in use 🙂

  2. Lenar says:

It depends on how much does this device cost. Maybe it’s much cheaper to build one more nuclear plant, than provide 30% of american PCs with this innovative power supply unit? I live in Moscow (Russia) and by my calculation I can save less than $10 per year by using this technology. Any way it will be great if this technology will present in all new power supply units.

  3. awesome stuff Nixie great interview. Thanks for bringing this case to my attention will definately look into it.

  4. eleno says:

Craaaaaap I usually put my computer to hybernate instead of shutting it down and using the marvelous “switch” Mobiletone is referring to. *sigh* convenience always comes at a price doesn’t? I think I may have to plant a few trees to atone for my CO2 making sins.

  5. eleno says:

Drat. I forgot to congratulate Nixie for taking such a great interview. (please forgive my rudeness)

  6. Henrik says:

Ooooooh. I use the same thing. Except it’s actually a powerstrip and costs $16 bucks at Wal-Mart.
